POINTers IN PERSON Minutes
Chapter #10 - Central Texas/Austin
Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388) opened the meeting with 14 members
present,
noting that Marilyn MANISCALCO Henley was on a cruise to include Italy,
and
Pat Oxley was on a trip to Italy.
Lin passed around a list of names to be updated for our local database
research. Lin has added the name REALE from Caserta Province. She said
we
are considering various speakers for the POINT 2000 Conference in Oct.
2000. Lin gave an update on the garage sale profit which is now $655.93.
Another sale is planned in the Fall.
Bill Brinkman stated we may contact Ruth Merriman at the LDS Library
in
Salt lake City for the latest list of tapes.
Laurie GUGINO Riester has been researching Valedomo records. She
has two
Italian phone books which contain part of Palermo records. She
has found
eleven Gugino families. She picked one and wrote to them sending
pictures,
hoping to make connections when she leaves for Italy in late June.
Frank Henry (IANNARINO) (#3258) received a letter from the Office of
Civil
Records in Termini Imerese. It contained certified copies of
his Mother's
and Father's birth certificates and their marriage certificate.
He was
pleasantly surprised to receive 8000 lire in change for unused postage
!
It was noted that Pat Oxley has the "Italians to America" series on
CD ROM
and has offered to help us look up names.
Jaime CANNONE has looked back over previous notes and materials and
discovered the name of his Grandmother born in Montalbano. He
has ordered
birth and marriage records from LDS. He has the wedding date
down to a
five-year span. He is still working on the logo for the Conference.
Augie TROIANI is working on the COSTA name. He called Italy and
spoke to
two parish priests who are concerned about giving out personal information.
They will look up and forward what they can since he has created an
interest with them. Augie and wife Loree were born in Italy,
and he says,
"You can look at me as your Italian connection". His niece, Nadia,
is
coming from Italy to visit on August 25.
Joe MASTRANGELO (#2614) is stuck at his g-g-grandfather. There
are either
two separate families or a disparity in one. Angelo should be
the oldest
child. He has written to Putignano for death certificates and
is missing
marriage certificates. Civil records for 1760 - 1800 are missing
and he
has written to a church but hasn't heard back. He wrote again,
giving
names and asking for extracts this time. He has Sicilian marriage
records
in the Vetrano name. He says Family Treemaker 6.0 software is good.
Virginia MACRI Gerick (#2730) is trying to get all her records together
and
has received a lot of e-mails. She has a page of a telephone
directory
where her Mother's Father came from, and will write to see if there
are any
matches.
Eugenia ASSABINE Luken took some names off the database name list, and
added her Grandmother's name she learned of recently.
Jeanie MARSALIA sent off a request for a passenger list and is awaiting
a
reply. With help from Joe Mastrangelo, she learned from Ruth
Merriman that
the Torino information she needs is just beginning to be filmed and
will
take about six months to complete.
NEXT MEETING is JUNE 23 at 6:30 pm in the Bank One Bldg. in Round Rock.
NEXT POT LUCK MEETING is Sunday, July 18, rather than Saturday.
NEXT CONFERENCE MEETING will be in August (date to be announced).
The
keynote speaker should be decided then.
