POINTers IN PERSON REPORT
Chapter #10-Texas, Central Texas/Austin
Marilyn Maniscalco Henley (#1653)
Fifteen members and spouses met at the home of Bill and Lin Onofrio Brinkman (#1388) on November 20 for a delicious homemade Italian dinner. Lin prepared Stuffed Shell Macaroni with Puttanesca Sauce and Meatballs and served Chianti and a Sicilian wine with Italian cookies as dessert.
At the meeting following dinner, Lin reminded everyone about the Italian Genealogy Workshop planned for Sat, Jan 25, 2 - 6 pm at the Round Rock Bank Bldg. Joining her on the planning committee would be Joe Mastrangelo (#2614), Tony Abbattista (#2641) and Marilyn Henley (#1653). Lin will be sending invitations to POINTer members, using the labels supplied by Dr Tom Militello.
Tony reported that he received records from Corato, Bari, Italy giving him 4 more new surnames: Patruno, D'Introno, Varesano, and Piarulli. He has also sent for his grandfather's social security application.
Amy Barrera has been corresponding with another Bolzoni (her mother's maiden name). She related the interesting story of her Pellegrini family's arrival to America.
Sheila Bayha Dugosh is still searching ship records for her Leone name. She told about reading that an Italian named Leone won the 1996 NYC marathon.
Sheron Appino Nickels proudly showed the items belonging to her paternal grandfather that her mother recently discovered in a box in a closet, including his passport and 1919 Declaration of Intention showing that Giovani Appino came from Faveria Italy and his wife Theresa was from Borgomasino, Italy.
Marilyn announced that she is now compiling lists of the weekly microfilm rentals at the Family History Center (Rutherford) for patrons to consult. She passed out the current genealogy related holdings of the Galveston and Texas History Center at the Rosenberg Library that her daughter Shelly Henley Kelly handed out at her talk Nov 2 at the Houston Genealogy Forum.
Lin closed by announcing that the movie, "The Big Night" was still showing at The Dobie Theater. We will not have a meeting in December.
