Lin and Jeanie MARSALIA told about the bus trip to Houston to celebrate the 34th Italian festival. Bocce tournaments, live opera, tirami su demonstration, a quick Italian language course, tarantella dancing, grape stomping, and lots of good Italian food. Having someone drive us was the way to go.
Scott Patrick (#4819) heard back from his mother's first cousin who
grew up in Brooklyn. She was not aware of any of the relatives Scott
recently discovered, several of whom were born in Brooklyn.
These were grandchildren of two sisters of Scott's g-grandfather,
Giuseppe Motto. Giuseppe's older sister Maria Lucia MOTTA married
Pasquale GALGANO and immigrated to New York in 1914 along with two
daughters and four grandchildren. Maria Lucia's daughter Maria
Antonia Galgano had married Michele Arcangelo URGA in Laurenzana and
their three daughters Carmela, Maria Lucia, and Assunta Urga all
immigrated with her. A son Dominick Urga was born in Brooklyn in
1915. Maria Lucia's daughter Rosa Maria Galgano married Michele
NEPORCELLI and her son Giuseppe Neporcelli immigrated with her. A
daughter Josephine was born in Utica around 1920. Maria Lucia's son
Luigi Carmelo Galano had immigrated earlier and had a daughter Anna
Lucia Galgano in Brooklyn in 1924.
Giuseppe's younger sister was already in the U.S. in 1914. She was
married to Michelarcangelo ROMANO. They had a son Donato Romano who
married Maria Antonia RIZZO. Donato and Maria Antonia had three
children Gerolima, born 1922 in NYC, Michael, born 1923 in NYC, and
Frances, born 1925 in NYC.
Scott also mentioned that he looked at one of the new databases on
Ancestry.com for deaths in West Virginia. He found a death record
that he is certain is the grandmother of an old high school
classmate. It listed the exact town she was from in the Catanzaro
province of Calabria, along with her father's name. Scott will be
sending this information on to his classmate.
Another son of Maria Lucia named Luigi Carmelo Galgano immigrated
earlier. He married in Brooklyn and had a daughter named Anna Lucia
Galano in 1924.
A friend of Marie SIMONSEN MASTRANGELO has started a group for anyone, any nationality, to start their family research. Marie has a collection of material for her Norwegian family search, and has offered various books, articles, and information from Bydga Bok, which contains extensive Norwegian research. Marie said it is always good to receive help, and to give help to fellow genealogists.
Betty TOMMASELLI Glaser has found that her Grandfather Luciano Tommaselli's nephew, Rafaelle Tommaselli ( 1906- 1980 ), married Antoinette COPPOLA ( 1905-1986 ) on 31 August 1937 in New Haven, CT. Her parents were Luigi Coppola and Maria Carmela Giovanna SIMONIELLA.
