POINTers IN PERSON REPORT
Chapter #10-Texas, Central Texas/Austin
Marilyn Maniscalco Henley (#1653)
Lin Onofrio Brinkman (#1388) opened the Wed, Oct 23 PIP Meeting with 11 members and announced our
Italian Genealogy Workshop, Sat, January 25, 1997 2 pm -- 6 pm at Bank One, Round Rock
Invitations will be sent to Texas POINTers and PIE -- no charge. More information will be posted in the next few months. Mark your calendars now. Consider spending the weekend in the beautiful Texas Hill Country.
Lin welcomed Amy Davidson Barrera; she read the meeting notice on PIE. She is researching Pellegrini from Florence and Bolzoni from LaSpezia.
Lin showed us her letter sent to Cav. Louis Mendola in Palermo 2 months ago, returned from Italy, marked “absent”. Since mailing the letter, however, she has learned more family information and will write directly to the commune herself.
She passed around theSept/Oct 96 issue of Piecework Magazine, which has photos of crafts and stories from Ellis Island.
Tony Abbattista (#2641) sent a message saying that the server to our Web Page is being reconstructed, and he will let us know when everything is fixed.
Marilyn showed photos from her Maniscalco Reunion and Houston's Festa Italiana and the family album she carried to the reunion. She passed out samples of a Family Health Form like family members had completed.
She also showed a booklet and family photo sent from a cousin, Filippa Augello, in Poggioreale, Sicily of that town's Culture and Traditions containing beautiful color photos of St Joseph's Day breads.
Minutes from the Sept meeting were passed out; Virginia Macri Gerick (#2730) corrected the spelling of her last name, and the census reported as 1910 should be 1900.
Frank and Bert (Iannarino) Henry returned from two trips to Pittsburg; to help his sister after surgery and for his brother's funeral. Frank met a Longo cousin who has a brother in the native town of Termini Imerese, Palermo, Sicily.
Sheila Bayha Dugosh finally found the Leone family in the 1910 Washington Co, PA census, but not the Piraino family.
Joe Mastrangelo (#2614) received a refund of 2000 lira and 2 coins from the Bari State Archives with a letter that they did not have his requested item. He has copies of research request letters in Italian that have appeared on PIE for anyone to use.
He then read the humerous computer tech items excerpted from the Wall Street Journal and sent to PIE from Sam Galioto.
Our next meeting will be Wednesday, November 20 at Lin and Bill Brinkman's home, 1804 Oakridge Dr, Round Rock. Call 512-255-0285 if directions are needed. She will prepare Linguini and Puttanesca Sauce.
