Marilyn MANISCALCO Henley (# 1653)
Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (# 1388) opened the monthly POINTers In Person
meeting at 6:30 pm on Sept 27, 2000 at the Round Rock Library with 23 members
attending. Lin welcomed new member Angelo GATTOZZI. She announced our next
two meetings, both at the library on Sunday, Oct 22 -- potluck, 1:30
pm and Wednesday evening November 15, 6:30 pm. Our Christmas luncheon will
be on Sunday December 10 at The Brinkmans.
Other announcements were that the Sons of Italy, Pompeo Coppini Lodge, has a new branch in San Marcos and that the Oct issue of Food & Wine magazine highlights Italian wine. The North Side Austin paper mentioned the POINT Conference; Lin received four inquiries as a result of its listing. Lin talked with Chuck Panico in Las Vegas, organizer of the previous conference, and he will not be able to attend this year due to surgeries. Conference registration is 112. Warren Luken won the meeting door prize.
Bill BRINKMAN told that his family reunion has raffles of homemade items that family members donate to raise money to pay for the reunions. Jeanie MARSALIA''s (#4251) family has a silent auction.
Sheila BAYHA Dugosh (#4365) showed a photo of her grandfather Joseph PIRAINO and his family that was given to her mother at a family reunion where her mother met an aunt Josephine CAMMACHO, whom she had never met.
Bill Brinkman introduced new co-worker Angelo GATTOZZI who was born in Campobasso, Molise, Italy, and is moving here from Euclid Ohio. Angelo's wife Marianna STORTO, has not relocated yet. Other family names and locations are APPUGLIESE, RATINO and FEDERICO from Matrice, Molise and STORTO and LASELVA from Campobasso and Castellino del Biferno, Molise.
Maria TONTI Schulze announced that she has acquired a large cutout of the Tony''s Pizza man for the conference.
Dorothy ONOFRIO Lippincott showed the vest she made for the gorilla and the bow tie for the Mickey Mouse that were donated for the POINT conference.
Joyce TIANELLO Snodgrass received an email from a cousin who is researching mutual grandparents. She did not get a lot of information during her trip to Ohio, but visited with her father a cousin and got a 1920 census.
Warren and Eugenia ASSAIBENE Luken will be helping at the conference.
Angie CLARK (#1538) mentioned that she is emailing with another possible SCOPEL connection.
Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (# 1388) is researching the first Italians to settle in Williamson County, TX -- MONTIDONICO and CONOVA.
Augie TROIANI announced that his wife Lory is doing better from her accident that she had after they returned from their California trip. We all wished her well. Augie updated us on his Costa research.
Louis SCOPEL (#4250) reported stopping at an Italian grocery in the Italian section of St Louis, The Hill. He and Kay met with another SCOPEL in Urbano and visited with his 92 year old aunt in Calumet before stopping at the Jack Daniel''s plant. They attended the Sons of Italy meeting in San Marcos.
Marilyn MANISCALCO Henley (# 1653) mentioned that video streams of her daughter are on the CNN web site listed under ""weather"" with Shelly giving readings from her Galveston storm book. Her family reunion of the Messina sisters - Maniscalco/Montlabano/Weido (Guida), all from Poggioreale, Sicily, will be October 15 in the Houston area. Marilyn''s mother Lily ALFANO MANISCALCO had knee replacement surgery Sept 21.
Don VILLONI (#3985) announced that his cousins, whose wedding he attended
in Torino last year, have a baby daughter. He and Shirley traveled to Ohio
and Philadelphia and attended the Feast of Saints Cosmos and Damien where
his
grandfather''s music is played during the procession. He and Shirley
are moving to Georgetown.
Joe MASTRANGELO (# 2614) has recorded 640 births and approximately 400 marriages of the MASTRANGELO and PUGLIESE names from Putignano Italy into his database. On the Pizzalato side, he has sent for an SS-5 application for a Mary Pizzalato and received her death certificate from the state of Pennsylvania. Her maiden name is MELORE and she died in Stroudsburg, PA.
Jeanie MARSALIA (#4251) also sent for an SS-5 application for a possible son of her grandfather''s sister, Maggie MARSALIA NARDINE. She mentioned seeing Joe''s name is the most recent POINTers.
Laurie GUGINO Riester (# 3878) and her family spent ten days in Italy this summer, three days at Cinque Terra near Genoa. They enjoyed the excitement generated by the Italians winning the semi-finals in soccer while they were there.
Pat OXLEY (# 3713) showed the first issue of PRIMO Magazine and the cookbook compiled and put together by she and the Gericks to be given in each conference registration bag.
Zina VERSAGGI Graalfs (# 3336) has a VERSAGGI family reunion to attend over Thanksgiving in St Augustine Florida.
Virginia MACRI Gerick (#2730) found her grandfather's parent's marriage certificate in the LDS film, giving her a new surname to research MARTINO. Her grandfather turned out to be a twin; she never knew about twins being born in her family.
Jamie CANNONE and Di FREI took a day trip to Fredricksburg and stopped at three wineries. He brought a copy of the latest issue of Family Chronicle Magazine.
