September 17, 2005 Meeting Minutes

    POINTers IN PERSON Minutes
    Chapter # 10 Central Texas/Austin

Submitted by: Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388)

Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388) opened the Sept. 17, 2005 POINT #10 meeting and potluck at Griffith Round Rock Public Library with sixteen present.
As usual, the potluck dishes were varied and delicious. A discussion of putting together family recipes will be taken up seriously at a later date.
Lin pointed out the debut of "Threshold" on CBS, starring Carla Gugino. Carla's father, and the father of member Laurie GUGINO Riester (#3878) are first cousins.
Lin's family reunion in Connecticut was a great success, and included cousins not seen for 60 years!
The Italian presence will be noticable in Austin at the Pecan Street Festival in Austin on Sept. 24-25 when the Austin Italian Cultural Association has a food booth. They will be preparing sausage and pepper sandwiches, and volunteers are needed.

JEANIE MARSALI A (#4251) plans to attend the 11th annual Marsalia Family Reunion to be held on Sept. 24 in Mentz, Texas.

Scott Patrick (#4819) is researching Attilio FAVORINI, a doctor in NYC.

Joe MASTRANGELO (#2614) reported that the Department of French and Italian at the University of Texas at Austin is presenting several Italian films in September, October and November.
Joe received the LDS film covering 1926 Morte for Putignano (BA). His review indicates that his Greatgrandmother did not remarry. However, a clue may be that one of the reporting persons had the same surname, Angela Grazia RICCIARDI, which may mean she was residing with her relatives. These films cover only one year for the entire Province (Bari). To research ten years, Joe will have to rent ten films.
Joe and Marie continue to rent Italian films, which depict life when our ancestors immigrated, so we can get an idea of why they left.
Joe found an article on a web site, "desertnews.com" , describing the LDS efforts to create INDEXES to their films, and to place these indexes on line. No time table is currently available.
Joe provided a Relationship Chart from Italy for reference. It describes the use of "grado" (grade) used by Italy in describing the relationship within families.
He showed the June-July issue of the magazine F&L PRIMO which had some possible connections to our club members through the names CUGINI and PACELLI.
Joe continues to experiment with his wide angle adapter for his Nikon camera, and feels there is a notable improvement, though the challenge is to get the lens perpendicular to the projected image. He will try a yellow overlay and will report on his efforts.

    Next meeting : October 26, 2005.
