Chapter # 10 Central Texas/Austin
Submitted by: Sherry PACELLI Haddox(#4883)
Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388) opened our monthly meeting with 8 people in attendance.
Lin and her husband, Bill, recently returned from a family reunion in several towns around New Haven, CT. They had a wonderful time visiting with family and eating good
pizza, seafood and cannoli.
Joe MASTRANGELO (#2614) is continuing to extract morti records from 1809 on. He is currently viewing 1868 records and has over 900 morti records extracted and
recorded in his access data base.
The latest records (1866 - 1868) are all hand written (no forms were used) and it makes for very slow reading!
Joe found the death record of his great-uncle, Giacinto PUGLIESE. He was the older brother of Antonia PUGLIESE, Joe's grandmother. He died the month he was born.
Joe has been in contact with John Locke from an Austin FHC. They are exploring the possibility of Joe presenting the "Italian Genealogy Pitch" at one of their workshops.
John originally wanted it for the November workshop but it got booked so they are now canvassing their membership for the level of interest for an alternate date. He will
keep Joe informed.
Jeanie MARSALIA (#4251) went to the FHC and viewed a film looking for documents for her great-grandparents. She did not find any on the film.
A former member of our chapter, Marilyn MANISCALCO Henley, is helping Jeanie research the Tatter and Parker families on her mother's side of her family. They lived in
Colorado County, Texas. Marilyn has found various records which she mailed to Jeanie.
Jeanie requested copies of the naturalization records of her great-great-grandfather Christopher Tatters who came here from England in 1879.
The MARSALIA family reunion is being held on Saturday, September 29th.
Jeanie's son, Shane Mahon, is flying to Florence, Italy on September 29th for a two week intensive study of the Italian language and culture at the Istituto Italiano.

Sherry PACELLI Haddox (#4883) reported that her cousin in Rome, Alessandra Gesualdi, is communicating with an Italian television program which helps Italians that were adopted by Americans in the 1950's/1960's find their birth parents. As Sherry has reported to the chapter in the past, they are trying to help Sherry's cousin, Todd Capron (birth name Ulderico MONDINI), find his birth mother. He was born on July 1, 1958 in Reggio Calabria and adopted as a 6 year old child from an orphanage in Rome by Sherry's aunt and uncle. He grew up in New York. Todd may fly to Rome soon to be interviewed for the program.
The meeting adjourned at 8:00pm. Our next meeting will be October 24th at 6:30pm at Merrill Gardens in Round Rock.
