Chapter # 10 Central Texas/Austin
Submitted by: Sherry PACELLI Haddox(#4883)
Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388) opened the monthly meeting on September 24th with 10 people in attendance.
Lin shared menus from Italian restaurants they have enjoyed in Milford and New Haven, CT.
She reported that she and Bill are working on her cousin's genealogy, researching William Joseph TOMMASELLI (1914-1977). He was born in New Haven, CT. His
father was Luciano TOMMASELLI and his mother, Brigida DeLUISE. His brother was Armond TOMMASELLI and they were all from Benevento, Campagna, Italy.
Lin welcomed guests Joe MELOMO and his wife Patricia COLACINO. They own Andiamo, a very popular Italian restaurant in Austin.
Patricia is researching (on her Paternal side): Giuseppe COLACINO (her grandfather). Her father, Pasquale Vittorio COLACINO, was born in MOTTA SANTA LUCIA in
CALABRIA. She wants to know about her grandfather and find out who his parents were and if her grandfather had any siblings. She thinks he may have had a brother
named Vittorio COLANCINO.
Her great-grandmother was Luisa (Lisa?) de MEDICI. She is the mother of her father's mother, Rafaella NOTORIANNI who Patricia believes was one of 12 children. She
would like to know about her grandmother and her great-grandmother who was married to Guiseppe NOTORIANNI and how she is a descendent of the MEDICI line.
On her maternal side she's researching:
Joseph MUSACCHIA, her grandfather, who was born in 1896 in NY and married her grandmother Santa Maria ARCURI who was born in 1897 in MA. She thinks he died in 1956 and her grandmother died in 1952.
Her grandfather, Vincenzo MUSACCHIA, was born in Sicily and died in 1954 (?) in NY. His parents may have been Rosa Giuseppe MUSACCHIA and Gesualda MANOLA who were both born in Sicily. Gesualda died in 1930 in NY. (Her parents may have been Giovanina and Antonio MANOLA born in SICILY.)
Her grandmother’s parents were Giuseppe ARCURI and Margherita COLLETTI who were both born in SICILY. Giuseppe died in New York in 1921. His father may have been Marino ARCURI. Her father may have been Vincenzo COLLETTI.
Joe MASTRANGELO (#2614) is continuing to extract death records from 1809 on and is currently viewing 1881 records.
He is reaching 2000 records extracted and just in excess of 1600 recorded in the data base.
Today, he extracted and photographed 3 interesting death certificates.
Jeanie MARSALIA (#4251) received a reply from a letter she had written to Anna MARSAGLIA GARBOLINO of Caselle Torinese, Italy from her son-in-law, Lucio.
He found Jeanie's e-mail address on the Internet. He explained that Anna married Domenico Marsaglia Cagnola and he passed away in 1992. Anna was not aware of
the details of the family tree of Jeanie's family. He said that all he could tell her was that in Caselle there are several Marsaglia's and even the mayor is a Marsaglia. He
said to let him know if there is still something they could do to help Jeanie in her research. Jeanie thanked him for taking time to reply to her letter and told him how much
she appreciated it.
Jeanie will attend the Marsalia Family Reunion this Saturday, September 27, 2008 in Mentz, Texas.
Scott Patrick (#4819) reported that indexes to the civil records of his ancestral town of Laurenzana (PZ, BA) are now available on Ancestry.com. These originated in Rootsweb. Scott is not sure what other towns might have indexes available there. Scott discovered three birth records with his great-grandfather's sister, Geronima Carmela MOTTA, as the mother. Geronima was married to Michelarcangelo ROMANO in 1887. The births, from 1906 to 1910, were for Antonio, Anna, and Anna Maria respectively.
The meeting adjourned at 8:15pm. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, October 22nd at Merrill Gardens, Round Rock, Texas
