September 23, 2009 Meeting Minutes

    Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman opened the meeting on September 23rd with 7 present.
      Lin reported that she and Bill will be attending the August 2010 POINT Conference in Salt Lake City and urged other Chapter #10 members to join them.
      She sadly reported the passing of her godmother, Theresa Bencivengo Rice, in Orange, CT.

    Joe MASTRANGELO (#2614) reported on a new Province formed in Italy out of cities in Bari and Foggia. It is referred to as BTA. Joe explained that Grace OLIVIO of Comunes of Italy magazine provided the following information on the new Province which is carved out of two older Provinces.

      • Andria (from the Province of Bari)
      • Barletta (from the Province of Bari)
      • Bisceglie (from the Province of Bari)
      • Canosa di Puglia (from the Province of Bari)
      • Minervino Murge (from the Province of Bari)
      • Spinazzola (from the Province of Bari)
      • Trani (from the Province of Bari)
      • Margherita di Savoia (from the Province of Foggia)
      • San Ferdinando di Puglia (from the Province of Foggia)
      • Trinitapoli (from the Province of Foggia)

      Joe also reported that he acquired two copies of the translated History of Poggioreale from Robert Lowry in Houston. These copies are for a couple of Joe's cousins in New Jersey. Their maternal grandfather, Rosario PIZZOLATO, immigrated to the United States through New Orleans, Louisiana in the mid 1890's from Poggioreale, Trapani, Sicily.

    Jeanie MARSALIA (#4251) told the group that she attended the wedding of her nephew, Neal MARSALIA on September 12th in Eagle Lake, Texas.
      She will attend the MARSALIA family reunion on Saturday, September 26th in Mentz, Texas.

    Rick & Pat COPPOLA are going to New York to visit their son and daughter-in-law and Rick's mother. They'll also go to Branford, Connecticut to meet with Mario COPPOLA. They're going to show him all the information that Tom PRISCILLA sent them regarding their ancestors from S. Salvatore Telesino, Benevento, Campania.

    Sherry PACELLI Haddox (4883) received an email from Charles CAMPISE stating that he has gone back to 1700 on the family tree of his maternal grandmother, Lena PALAZZOTA. He was unable to attend the meeting but wanted the chapter to know!
      Sherry is going to Paramus, New Jersey to visit her cousin, Violet Milone. Violet's husband, Placido (Sonny) MILONE, passed away unexpectantly on August 27th. While there Sherry will visit with all of her relatives in New Jersey and New York.

    The meeting adjourned at 8:00pm. Our next meeting will be October 28th at 6:30pm at Horizon Bay located at 8005 Cornerwood in Austin, Texas.
