    Chapter # 10 Central Texas/Austin

Submitted by: Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388)

Lin ONOFRIO Brinkman (#1388) called the September 22, 2010 meeting to order at the Brinkman guest house with 12 present, including guest Robert FALDETTA who is researching FALDETTA in Canicatti, Casteltermini and surrounding area. He has searched NARA and LDS records and the MA Archives.
Lin is planning to attend her first full ONOFRIO family reunion in Branford, CT, along with her husband, Bill Brinkman, and paternal cousin, Betty TOMMASELLI Glaser. They'll be bringing the genealogy they have found on the ONOFRIO family names : RUBANO, BUTTONE, GIUSTINIANI, MEGLIO, FEDERICO, CARLO, LEONE, ARMELSINO, ROMANO, IORRAISIO, ISAFFANO, BROCCOLI, BENEDETTA, SAGNELLA, CUSANO, VARRONE, DI CERBO, CIABURRO, VENDITO, ZAPPARELLI, and MATTEI. They also fully intend to take advantage of the local Italian food!
Lin also shared information about meetings of the local NIAF chapter which has formed.

Jeanie MARSALIA (4251) is also planning on attending a family reunion, the 15th annual MARSALIA reunion on September 25, 2010 in Mentz, TX.

Betty TOMMASELLI Glaser has found information on her paternal Grandfather, Luciano TOMMASELLI. His parents were Nicola TOMMASELLI, born 17 February, 1848 in Foglianise, Benevento, Campagnia and Lucia GIANNOTA, born 14 May, 1858 in Faicchio, Benevento, Campagnia. Nicola's parents were Andrea TOMMASELLI and Angela CUSANO. Lucia's parents are Marzio GIANNOTA and Maria Grazia CUSANO, a name also found on her maternal side.
Betty sent for a copy of her Grandfather Luciano's marriage certificate from New Haven, CT. He and Brigida DE LUISE were married 29 December 1907.
On her Mother's STONE side, Betty found the Naturalization document for her and Lin's Grandmother Eva Stone's sister, Celia STONE. From that, Betty learned that her Aunt Celia (also spelled Chane HALPER) and Betty and Lin's Greatgrandmother Sarah (also spelled Sore HALPER ) arrived in New York on 6 March 1902 on the ship "Anchoria" out of Glascow, Scotland. The manifest stated that two children were left behind in Russia; presumably, Grandmother Eva and her brother, Michael STONE. On the 1910 Hartford, CT Census, Sarah was listed with Celia and Eva. Brother Michael STONE appeared on the 1910 Massachusetts Census as being married. Both censuses listed Eva and Michael as arriving in 1902 as well.

Scott PATRICK (#4819) said he is going through both the on-line records for his ancestral town of Laurenzana (PZ BA) available through Ancestry.com for the years of 1866 and later, and also the earlier films at the Family History Center. He has been finding quite a few births, deaths, and marriages of siblings of his direct ancestors. Scott also advised that Ancestry has put more Italian records on line, including some for parts of Sicily. Aty this poinnt, the records are for the years 1866 and later, and many of the towns of central Sicily are out there, plus some for around Siracusa.

Hans Jensen is entering many records in Legacy.

Marie ZINFARDINO Jensen received several suggestiions for interviewing family elders at a Zanfardino wedding in New Jersey.

    • invite them to share their stories
    • help them remember dates and places
    • keep the conversation going
    • use a tape recorder

Our next meeting will be held on October 27th at 6:30pm.
