The Mid Level Environment is a child's world. Kinesthetic and crude sematic I/O from the ProtoAndroid interacts with other agents and the proximity environment on a touchy-feely basis.
For some tasks a structured environment will prove useful. The ProtoAndroid is in effect a marginally enabled being and needs help. The robot's world will be much like ours with a home territory which is mastered, but a vast world outside is also ontologized and explored.
Discussion in previous years fleshed out a robotics concept loosely refered to as "get a life". A robot with a life might have an explicit job, hobbys, domicile, etc..
