ProtoAndroid Base Station LAN

video server

The Local Area Network Layer cuts horizontally across the ProtoAndroid architecture below the Internet Layer and above On Board Data Bus Layer. As budgets and technology change, resources migrate up and down the architecture.

Video Server consists of a) salvaged parabolic dish & 2.4 Ghz receiver, b) NTSC video monitor, c) VCR and various switching boxes to route video steams, d) computer monitor and keyboard, e) old 486 box with video digitizer board, f) cart welded from salvaged shopping cart.

(NOTE: 1995 Config.) The current pitiful preliminary ad hoc configuration is a Next Cube as Internet server, a 486 Linux box in training for that position, a Pentium NT Workstation as local server, a WFW 486 with a video grabber/processor("video server"), all connected by slow Ethernet plus a motley reserve of lesser PCs. Total network memory is a pitiful 58 Meg RAM and 3.5 Gigs of hard drive storage. A hundredfold increase in system capacity is guessed will achieve most project goals.

smart solar cart

The LAN's machines are on wheeled carts in order to be able to travel with the ProtoAndroid. While waiting for the ProtoAndroid to birth they earn their keep by doing outreach to schools. Smart Solar Cart with wireless video link at left.

The image at right shows the Linux net server on a highly modified shopping cart.
