Austin Alternative Airport Design- Elevations

The sweeping lines of the various levels reflect a design essentially stairless and fully wheelchair accessible without depending on elevators or escalators.

Another big advantage over the official design is the protected pedestrian walkway to parking is sandwiched between enplaning and deplaning levels. This is safer and more convenient than pedestrians crossing traffic in all weather. The official plan calls for an expensive retrofit phase that puts the walkway over the upper deck. An arriving passenger is forced to chose crossing traffic over taking an elevator or stairs three stories up or down to and from the walkway.

Please forgive the graphic artifacts caused by reduction of the image. Even so, as in other views, the elevation expresses spare natural beauty that emerges from functional (near) perfection.
