ALTA Request for Temporary Yard Space at Mexican American Cultural Center

Who- Austin League of Tejano Artists (ALTA) projects under City of Austin funded contracts with Ambray Gonzalez, Nora Valdez, James and David Perez, and David Santos.

What- Prominent Austin Mexican-American sculptors need space to carve two prestigious City of Austin public art commissions won in juried competition.; 1) Baseball themed sculpture featuring Father Delaney, founder of Little League in Montopolis, designed by Ambray Gonzales for Montopolis Youth Sports Complex and, 2) "Creacion de Tejas" sculpture by David Santos and James Perez. These projects are contracts with the City of Austin and meet all legal requirements for safety, liability, etc.. As little as 35 feet x 20 (700 sq. ft) is sufficient area.. ALTA can pay modest amounts for use of space, but, due to funding constraints, welcomes any waiver of fees. This request is limited to the completion of the two commissions.

When- Work to begin as soon as possible (Initial request made in May, '98). Completion (removal to installation sites) planned for spring, '99.

Where- At the back end of existing city maintenance yard, in a vacant area, or any area suggested by parties. Space outside of security fence is also acceptable.

Why-: In order to meet contractual deadlines, ALTA artists desperately need space to work on two public art commissions for the City of Austin. The MACC benefits by supporting programming consistent with its mission, without cost or provision of special facilities.
