Partial JumpStart Outreach Documentation for 1996-7

Martin Jr. High School- Fall '96- David Santos made bi monthly trips (five total) to the school to work with students in various areas of technology art. Various tech art projects (video tower, walking robot, etc.) spent all or part of the school year in the Martin shop (Mr. Canales), with students learning to run and maintain them. Billy Canales and Scott Baker, teachers.

Soaring Skyward- April 18, '97- Summitt Elementary. A full day of assemblies by Santos covered every student in the school with his "Flying Sculptures". Two days preparation. The fifth year Santos was invited.

Robot Group Activities

NOTE: JumpStart administered official RG programs for '96-7. The following represents about 1/3 of activities, with other reports pending.

Martin Middle School- James Perez and David Santos took two pick-up loads of computers and robots to show off various aspects of Web mastering, digital video, robot control (Nov.,'96).

Publicity- Austin American Statesman, Dec. 15, '96. Feature article with color photo on art robotics by Santos, etc..

Work on New Robot Blimps- Initial completion of ORCA advanced media microblimp. Study and prototyping for Humanoid Blimp. Extensive web documentation. http://www.polycosmos.org/robotgrp/roboblmp/cmdrsalm.htm.

Work on computer vision for Smart Art- David Santos, Jeremy Rutman, TCP/IP based netcam integrated with labview for use by media blimp.

Work on ProtoAndroid- cutaway and grinding of prototype limbs (David Perez).

Work on mobile Tech Arts Net Server.

Gravity Gesellschaft- Can South Austin Hackers win the Nobel prize for physics while creating scuptlural experimental devices for public enjoyment? Harry Bolch, Jeremy Rutman, David Santos.
