Mission-

CFN, under the auspices of LACA, undertakes to serve all Austin area Latino community arts and educational organizations, at minimal or no charge, with the best levels computer network services, as a means to build community and educational opportunity.


Proposed Services-

Training and mentoring of key skills

On-line newsletter and calendar

Logon and E-mail accounts- Basic access to the net for all organizations.

E-mail list services- Automated email lists based on topic or organization.

E-mail to fax and mailgram- Maintain access to noncomputer users.

Domain service- (your organization).org or .arts or .net, etc. (laca.net)

Webmastering- Turnkey setup for any group needing it

FTP website maintenance accounts and software

Forms processing- Volunteer sign up, applications, etc.

Database services- Community listings, financial information, etc.

Transaction processing- On-line ticket sales, donations, etc.

Archiving- Amassing cultural patrimony, hosting literature and visual art on a permanent basis

On-line events

School outreach

LACA Local Area Network including public access terminals

Assistance to underserved populations outside Latino community.

Integration of resources- Links to govt. and other entities relevant to user community.

The reference to forestry in the name refers to the intended location for LACA's LAN, the former Urban Forestry Office of the City of Austin, as well as to a nearby ceremonial tree planting in 1996 that dedicated the site to a future Mexican American Cultural Center.
