Minutes for 7 November 2005 Meeting

The November 7, 2005 meeting of the El Córazon de Tejas Chapter was called to order by Chair Joanna Nigrelli at 10:00 a.m. in the Benson Latin American Collection Library, UT Austin.

Members present: Irma Flores Manges (APL), Alison Hicks (iSchool), Jennifer Thomas, Bob Cardenas (APL), Elva Garza (APL), Gustavo Soto (APL/iSchool), Tom Moran (APL), Adan Benavides (BLAC), Steve Reich (APL), Pamela Mann (BLAC), Margo Gutierrez (BLAC)

Introductions: Joanna invited all members to introduce themselves.

Minutes: The minutes form last meeting were not available for approval. Joanna will check with Diana Miranda about the minutes.

Financial Report: Joanna reported that the chapter currently has $1,047.90 in its account. Most of this money has come from membership dues.


Old Business: Election/appointment of remaining officers. Paola Ferate-Soto has agreed to serve as treasurer. If no one volunteers to serve as secretary we will need to rotate the responsibility among the members. We are still looking to have someone fill the VP\Chair-Elect position. If you are interested or know of someone please contact Joanna.

New Business: Congratulations to Dr. Loriene Roy, ALA 2007-2008 Presidential Candidate. Joanna will be inviting Dr. Roy to attend one of our upcoming meetings to speak about her agenda. Gustavo Soto was asked by Dr. Roy to serve as her campaign treasurer for her upcoming campaign.

ALA midwinter will be held in Sand Antonio January 20th through the 25th in San Antonio. Joanna hopes to see a few of us there to represent the chapter at meetings. Margo would also be interested in car-pooling.

Recruitment of new members: Contact St. Edwards, AISD, ACC, Texas State University and CTLS to include information in their newsletters or websites about the chapter. Contact Miguel Juarez at Texas A.M. and Connie Todd at Texas State. Contact Leslie Navarro at ACC to help with contacting other ACC librarians. If you have any other ideas for contacts contact Joanna. She has a draft letter that can be sent.

Stipend of $300.00 will be given to one UT student/Reforma member who is interested in attending TLA conference in Houston April 25th through 28th 2006. Students must be Reforma members before January 31, 2006 and they must be enrolled in the UT iSchool for the spring semester. Students will send an e-mail asking to be entered in a drawing for the stipend. Who ever is chosen in the drawing will be expected to attend a future Córazon de Tejas meeting and talk about their experience at the conference.

Open floor: Graphic artist Xaime Hernandez has been chosen to be the speaker at this years Viva Voz series which will be held on April 12th. If you know of any organization or venue that should get the information about the event please contact Pamela.

Next meeting will be held on January 14, 2006 from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the Windsor Park Branch.
