Mission Statement
El Corazón de Tejas-Central Texas Chapter of REFORMA is committed
to improving library and information services to Central Texas' Spanish-speaking
and Latino community. El Corazón de Tejas will actively promote
the following goals in the furtherance of this mission:

Create a respectful environment for the REFORMA community;

Develop and exchange ideas among libraries for including Spanish language
and Latino-oriented materials in their collections;

Develop and maintain library services and programs that meet the needs
of the Latino and Spanish-speaking community, especially with regard to
information technology;

Advocate for access to information, as well as equity of access, for the
Latino and Spanish-speaking community;

Establish partnerships with Central Texas organizations that serve the
Latino and Spanish-speaking community;

Recruit more bilingual and bicultural library professionals and support
staff;

Support adult basic and continuing education efforts in Central Texas that
affect the Latino and Spanish-speaking population;

Improve the effectiveness and availability of library programs and services
offered in Spanish in Central Texas;
-
Recognize the unique historic cultural ties between Texas and Mexico, and
honor this relationship by networking with the Mexican Consulate and other
local cultural institutions;
-
Educate Central Texas with regard to the understanding of these issues
and the need for these services.
