Darrel Rednour Thurman Darrel Rednour Thurman, 55, of Austin, Texas passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2011.

Darrel touched many lives. He will forever be remembered as a true gentleman, a great speaker, a fabulous artist, an ace pool player, and most of all a true friend to the end.

It is rare to encounter an individual with such a big heart, giving sprit, and genuine interest in his fellow man; though we grieve his loss, we are happier for having known him. Darrel was a proud, life-long resident of Austin who eagerly explored everything the city had to offer. He attended the University of Texas, earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1977. After graduation Darrel worked extensively as a graphic artist, sign-maker, and awning builder. Visual art was Darrel's true passion from a young age, and he was a devoted student of drawing, painting, and sculpture throughout his life. He excelled as a portrait artist, and refined his skills on a diverse selection of people encountered while pursuing his interests. Darrel was a devotee of Austin's famous music scene; his portraits of local musicians and fans alike are quietly displayed in locations throughout the city.

His love of motorcycles was intertwined with his artistic passions, providing both the subject and inspiration for much of his work. He was a dedicated member of Toastmasters for over 25 years. As many Austinites can attest, a game of pool with Darrel was often a losing proposition - but well worth it for the chance to receive the friendship and camaraderie of such a loving soul. Darrel is survived by his wife, Karola; his daughter, Natalie; his son, Daniel; and the countless friends and family whose lives he brightened.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 2011 at the Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
