River Oaks Neighborhood Association (RONA) |
Open Letters(To RONA Members, Planning Commission, City Council, etc.) March 30, 2004 - RONA: I would like to say how proud I was to see so many people attend the meeting in February! The whole dining room was full with SRO! It shows that people in River Oaks really do care about the neighborhood. I have already seen a few "no parking" signs on Old Cedar that indicate the City of Austin has responded to some concerns about people parking and utilizing the park from our neighborhood. There are adequate parking spaces in the park for park access. I hope we will see the City respond to more of our issues, but it really takes several people calling the City to get their attention. River Oak residents should not hesitate to make a call when they see large limbs down, blocked streets, stopped up gutters, missing street signs, burned out street lamps, etc. Also, we need to be very observant about the cars and people who are going through the neighborhood. It takes all of us to keep this neighborhood a safe and attractive place to live. We should all participate in Austin Clean Sweep by doing our part to clean up our neighborhood during April! April 19, 2000 - The neighborhood response to this rezoning issue was wonderful to see and hear! Everyone's speeches were great and inspirational!!! We did win the battle last night-the planning commission voted to deny the request to rezone but this issue still will go before City Council in 5 weeks. It does help that the planning commission voted to deny the request and it carries a lot of weight that we have a valid petition. So.... we won this battle but not the war yet!! I think if we can get the same people to speak, we'll do just fine. Diane Luden Note from the Web Mistress: The City of Austin has a Web page on "Smart Growth." Last updated on December 13, 2006 |
