Chair's Report ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Austin Community Trees Award The neighborhood received training Tuesday evening, September 16. All were surprised at how many cards for trees the volunteers were able to pass out. Jane reminded the group that the program comes from Austin Energy and trees should be placed strategically to shade both the street and house. Caution Light Implementation This project came to the top after a review because of a traffic fatality a few years ago. The total cost of the project will be $6000 and we can authorize the money or wait until another project comes up. Other projects such as sidewalk and street projects are outside our budget, but Dinita Caldwell (CapMetro) told the group that CapMetro can repair sidewalks at or near bus stops. Jane will go back to Laura Patlove and ask for a list of alternate projects to spend the money on. New Business ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dinita Caldwell, CapMetro, introduced herself and answered questions about CapMetro's fare increases and the status of the MetroRail project. Pip Start. Sarah Estapa from Pip Start talked about after school programs for elementary and middle school students. Master Builder Community Club is an after school program that meets on Monday afternoons at Kealing Middle School. It serves as a safe place for children to gather and talk. This semester's project focuses on flight and children will learn about boomerangs and build model rockets. The cost is $10 for the whole semester and tutors are available from UT. Energy Efficiency Initiative Matt Wilson, from the Office of the Mayor, spoke to the group about the City's new energy audit program. A 25-member task force of those from the real estate industry, energy efficiency experts, consumer groups and the Austin Tenants Council was formed to formulate the initiative that would give owners and potential owners an estimate of the costs to implement energy efficiency upgrades upon the sale of a residence. Sellers would be required to provide an energy audit of the structure during disclosure, but repairs would not be required. Jane will send a letter to the council in support of the plan. ANC Bryan presented two resolutions up for vote at the September ANC meeting: Comprehensive Project Impact Analyses & Review Process, and Publishing Maps of City-Owned Properties. The group indicated their support for these resolutions. Boggy Creek Park. Linda said that the parks department may allocate money to install an accessible drinking fountain and fix up the bathrooms as part of the Boggy Creek restoration project. She is also looking for additional input for projects to enhance or limit changes to the park and path. *Meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m*
