Tafoya, Texas LULAC Chair's Report ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Introductions and motion to approve as-corrected June minutes New Business ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Rosewood Oaks Apartment Community James Wallace, Wallace Development, LLC, presented regarding building a residential/commercial development, "The Rosewood Oaks Apartment Community," located at 2604 Rosewood, (to surround Rosewood Oaks Primary Childcare Center). The rental units would provide housing for the childcare center parents (rents $800-$1000); there would be a community center; commercial space, thus promoting job creation/stimulus of economic growth in the community; and a walkway access to adjacent city park. A letter of support from RNCT was requested for the project. The group voted in support of the letter, but Homewood Heights, the most directly affected neighborhood, opposed the letter. Elderly Housing, 3100 Block E. 12th Street Ray Galloway and Rev. Michael White of Anderson Community Development Corp. presented regarding the development of 24-50, income-qualified, senior rental units and activity center at 3101, 3107 and 3111 East 12th Street. Projected completion is 24 months, if approved by City Council. A letter of support from RNCT was requested. Following the presentation, Messrs. Galloway and White stepped outside the meeting room; a motion was offered in support of the letter of approval; a discussion ensued regarding same; and a unanimous vote passed in support of the letter. Texas LULAC Marcelo H. Tafoya gave an update regarding the activities of LULAC and its goals of promoting education and civil rights. He also passed out the 2008-2009 "Texas LULAC Report Card" publication. General Discussion Lonny Stern applied for $2500 KAB grant to improve the 12th & Chicon streetscape, to include murals; April 3rd, 2010 a Eastside street festival is in planning phase for that same location. *Meeting adjourned 8 p.m.*
