Rosewood Neighborhood Contact Team Meeting Thursday, July 22, 2010, 6:00 p.m. Harvey House, at the corner of Harvey & 13th Street Present ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Judith Clarkson (Foster Heights), Jim Eastburn (McKinley Heights), Michael Emery (Rosewood-Glen Oaks), Greg Hammond (Homewood Heights), Linda Hutchins (Foster Heights), Gilbert Rivera (Rosewood-Glen Oaks), Jane Rivera (Rosewood-Glen Oaks), Megan Spencer, Paul Riekert; guest: Officer Chris Davis. Minutes ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Minutes from the June meeting were read and approved. Capital Metro Update: Dinita Caldwell ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Capital Metro just hired their new CEO. She is working with staff on how to handle metro access and rail. They had an audit, and the findings were that they need to do more meaningful outreach. The new budget process was their attempt to begin this process. They are working towards a tobacco-free service in phases: they are starting with tobacco-free platforms September 1. This fall there will be service changes, but none will impact Rosewood. They are working on rail right-of-way cleanup, and have released a contract which will begin work this week. There have been no known accidents with kids and the metro rail, though there have been concerns. They are hoping to open the metro rail schedules maybe after the first of the year. Music Studio Project: Paul Reikert ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mr. Reikert presented his plans for the property he purchased at 2205 East 12th Street (former 12th Street Baptist Church) at the June meeting. He intended to CHANGE THE ZONING FROM "CIVIC" to "LIMITED OFFICE" (LO), but City staff recommended that he also add Mixed Use to that so that it would provide more safeguards to the neighborhood. After considerable discussion, it was decided to send notice to the City staff that Mr Reikert is working with the RNCT, but that the Foster Neighborhood has concerns about the proposed zoning they need to have address. ACTION ITEM: RNCT will consider this item for a vote the next public meeting. Residential Burglaries in Homewood Heights: Officer Chris Davis, APD ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Officer Davis reports there have been residential burglaries in both Homewood Heights and Blackshear. There has also been at least one burglary of a vehicle, which usually follows. There was discussion of 3005 E. 12th, a known drug house at an MHMR facility beside Shaw's garage. APD is working on this one. This was Officer Davis's last day in Rosewood. Things we can do for followup: 1. Attend Commanders Forum the first Monday of each month. Express our need for continuing resources. 2. Request a District Rep for RNCT if one is not assigned. 3. Make sure our DR knows that most of our problems are daytime while people are at work. 4. Request more walking patrols at 12th and Chicon. Ask that the neighborhood cleanups continue. *Meeting adjourned.*
