What We Do

Each year the club undertakes a number of local and international projects. A few of the projects include:

  • Early Act First Knight: We participate with the Pecan Springs Elementary School along with Cosmopolitan Austin Rotary and Austin University Area Rotary to motivate and teach elementary school children to become civil, service-oriented people during their most formative years.

  • Ndabibi, Kenya Water Well Project: We participated in a Rotary Global Grant to drill a water well in Ndabibi, Kenya along with Cosmopolitan Austin Rotary, Naivasha Kenya Rotary and others. Project proposed in 2013 and sucessfully completed in 2014. See water well dedication slide show!

  • Role Model Days: We participate with the Blackshear Elementary School & Overton Elementary School to share each of our vocations with young children to they can see beyond their current vision of what is possible. See: Role Model Day at Blackshear Elementary

  • Books for Children: We provided English/Spanish Dictionaries for Oak Springs Elementary and Books for the school library.

  • Holiday Gift Shop: We donate items to the Oak Spring Elementary School's holiday gift shop. Students can then "buy" the items with points earned for good behavior, grades, study habits, etc.

  • Scholarships: Provide scholarships to graduating East Side Memorial High Student seniors to help with college tuition and fees.

  • Beautify Austin: We work with Keep Austin Beautiful to clean-up and beautify East Austin. See: Keep Austin Beautiful

  • Meals on Wheels: Participate in the East Austin Meals on Wheels - delivering meals to "shut-ins". See: Meals on Wheels and More

  • Adopt a Family: We adopt a family for the holidays providing them a holiday meal and holiday gifts for the children.

  • Blood Drive: The 2012 club coordinated blood drive with over 34 pints of blood donated. See: The Blood Center of Central Texas

  • Fund Raising: The club took orders for Oranges and Grapefruit for the holidays as a fund rasing project.

  • History: A little history of the East Austin Rotary Club.

Driving directions
: When driving south on IH 35. Exit at Riverside Drive. Get in right lane on the West IH35 frontage road. Drive through the traffic light at E. Riverside Drive. Go slowly and turn right at the second driveway, only about a half block from Riverside Drive.

The sign displays the address 1124. Continue up the long driveway and at the fork in the driveway veer to the left. There are visitor parking places along the chain fence. The lobby to the building is on your right. If for some reason you miss the second driveway, you have one more opportunity to enter the property. Follow the frontage road (all you will see on the right are trees). About a block further there is a road. Turn right, go up the hill, turn right again and drive through the parking garage. Turn to left after going through parking garage and you will be at the same place as above. The lobby will be on your left with visitor parking along the fence.

Once you have passed this test and parked, go into the lobby, ask one of the nice ladies at the counter to direct you to the Rotary Club meeting.
