Since Hope Floats was filmed in Smithville our town has become the focus of a lot of attention. Many have asked, "Is Smithville real?" We assure you that it is. It was alive and well before the film crews filled up large spaces here, and it continues to thrive after all the excitement is over. However, the increased interest in Smithville has encouraged us to make information about our community more accessible through this web site.

The image "A Bridge to Smithville", presents two structures on the Smithville skyline to the South of the Colorado River. The old water tower in the foreground, the "Tin Man", is a preserved memento of Smithville's past. The new water tower in the background is representative of Smithville's progressive spirit: to enhance the lives of its citizens by improving the effectiveness of its facilities.
