Mechanical engineering is the broadest of all the engineering
disciplines. In college, students take courses in:
- chemistry
- manufacturing
- electrical systems,
- dynamics (study of moving objects)
- thermodynamics (science of energy)
Most colleges encourage students to focus their studies into one of three
areas of study: design manufacturing or energy/power. Mechanical engineers
design products such as automobiles, toys, air conditioners even zip-lock
freezer bags. Mechanical engineers also plan and design ways to manufactur
products. In the power and energy field, mechanical engineers could design
systems used anywhere from your own home to a river dam that supplies electricity
to an entire state.
