Opposition to proposed changes in billboard ordinances;
Vote NO on the Proposed Sign Regulation Amendments (Chapter 25-10)
Meeting Date:
April 8 and April 10
Meeting Time:
7:00 PM
Meeting Location:

Meeting Description:

I am the Secretary of the Texas Oaks South Neighborhood Association (TOSNA), located from Slaughter Lane south, between the railroad track just east of Manchaca, to Mary Moore Seawright Park.  We vehemently oppose any amendments that would permit the location or relocation of billboard onto scenic roadways, such as Slaughter Lane, and others, as well as any amendments that would permit any increases in billboards anywhere, including any increases in sizes or heights, whether the billboard is new or relocated.  The vast majority of citizens in Austin do not want billboards anywhere, and want them to be eliminated as quickly as possible.  We do not expect our Planning Commission or our City Council to fweall for the billboard lobbying machine, although we know it has lots and lots of money, and has been distressingly successful at the national and state levels, unfortunately.  We do NOT want the billboard that Reagan Outdoor wants to relocate on the property of the Shell Lube station on Bilbrook Place on the south side of Slaughter, which was previously proposed, which we vigorously opposed, and which was about to be defeated and was thus withdrawn.  Now we see why, since the billboard companies and their minions have now produced these proposed amendments.  We will fight, and we vote.  We will be watching this issue carefully, as will many many others in Austin, in choosing who to vote for in the coming election.  And we are organized.
