Words From The Halls Of JHS
"Our Industrial Electronics Class (held at LBJ High School) is an excellent place to learn about technical stuff and build skills with computers, circuits, and more. They teach you to calculate voltage, current, etc. in a circuit, and our hands-on equipment studies make it fun and interesting. I like the teacher because she's always willing to lend a hand with homework and stuff. I'm learning a lot, and it's not difficult. Just so I know the material at the end of the course."
"You might think this is kind of elementary, but I really like the food they serve in the cafeteria. It's cheap, it's decent and the ladies who serve us are really nice."
"Newspaper is actually one of my most difficult classes. It's so intense sometimes, but I think the stress is well worth it. When deadline comes and we're staying after school for hours, I forget why I'm doing this, but once the finished product comes out, I'm really proud of it. Being in newspaper gives me a strong sense of success."
"We're reading Smack in the Friends of the Johnston Library Club. It's a really good book and I'm looking forward to some intense discussion."
"Mr. Kelly's punk band is awesome. He's a great teacher, but when he's with Middlefinger, he's amazing."
"I don't like Math, but I love Statistics. I've never been able to understand math the way I do when Mr. Bracht teaches it. He's a good teacher, but more than that, I feel like I can relate to him on a personal level."
"Filmmaking is awesome. You get to watch your favorite movies and tell the class why you like them. Plus, you learn how to use cool digital equipment."
"Principles of Technology is all about machines and basic laws of physics. Crammed with formulas and examples, very useful if you're persuing a career in technology and/or mechanics. Mr. Matocha's strict, but he's taught me a lot of useful things in just these past months! I like learning about machines, and using them in the laboratory."
"We have a way cool Lithography course, taught by Mr. Hartgrove. You get to work with printing presses, cameras, darkroom equipment, etc. in a hands-on environment. Mr. Hartgrove is very clear on instructions. I am learning to put film negatives onto ruled masking paper, a process called "stripping", and I know how to use a process camera and automatic film developer."
"K-RAM can get pretty hectic when you put on the show itself, and that's what makes it so fun. The class allows you to get announcements from around the school to the student body in a fun way."
"The Johnston High School Library has the best books you can get. Biography, sci-fi, fantasy, adventures, westerns, classic fiction, etc.. It's all there! You should read the books by Piers Anthony, Stephen King, and Dean Koontz. Check out our computerized book catalogue, listing all the books the JHS Library has to offer. Just type in the catagory, author, and/or subject, and choose the book(s) you want. We have magazines, comics, and much more."
"Last night's football game was fun! Me and my friends all took off our shirts and painted the school's colors on our chests. Even though we lost, it was still really awesome! I don't think it'd be as much fun if we ever won a game."
"Wesley is the funniest guy in the whole school! No other school has as vivacious a hall monitor as we do at Johnston."
