Monster Book Sale 2001 - Update

Seems like I just paid the chiropractor's bill from the last book sale, but here comes Monster Book Sale 2001 with a vengeance. The Basement Crew has packed over 1,100 boxes of regular books and 170 boxes of exceptionals, with more to come. The sale will be held again at the Crockett Center, located on the Highway 290 frontage road just east of IH 35 on the following days and times:

Saturday, September 22, 9:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. AUCTION - 10:00 a.m.

Sunday, September 23, 10:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.

The Members Only preview sale will be held on Friday, September 21 from 5:30 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. NOTE: Memberships can be purchased or renewed at the door.

Al Heinrich, co-chair of the sale, has been busy taking care of permits for street banners and coordinating the transfer of the books from the Central Library to the Crockett Center (no small feat!) among many other tasks. Stuart Sussman, a talented local graphics designer, volunteered his services to create the publicity posters, bookmarks, and sale notification postcards. We plan to print 2,000+ more posters and bookmarks this year for bulk distribution at AISD libraries and nearby school districts. Phyllis and Julie Todaro (the FAPL media magnates) are updating and distributing the press release to newspapers, magazines, and radio and television stations, and coming up with other clever ways to get the word out. Connie Moore has graciously agreed, as she has for many years in the past, to coordinate the volunteers needed to work the sale - greeters, sorters, book counters, checkers, haulers, and packers. Individuals or groups interested in pitching in either prior to or during the sale should contact Dana McBee, Volunteer Services Coordinator for the Austin Public Library, at 499-7443 or Dana.McBee@ci.austin.tx.us.

Qualified individuals or organizations, such as school and public librarians, nonprofits, educational institutions, civic organizations, etc., may sort through and take surplus books from the sale the afternoon of Sunday, September 23. Contact Kim Lindros at (512) 250-0105 or kimlindros@austin.rr.com, no later than Friday, September 14.
