Report on the Annual Meeting

The annual meeting was held on May 23rd at the Austin History Center. We had close to a full house to conduct business, elect officers and board members, listen to a great presentation by Mike Cox on libraries and librarians he knew and how they assisted him in his literary pursuits. The slate of officers and board members presented in the last news letter was elected by acclimation; as there were no nominations from the floor. A change to the By-Laws was also passed, increasing the term of office for the four officers from one year to two and limiting them to two consecutive terms. This is to take effect in 2002.

Ed Burns reported on our current financial status and Brenda Branch, Director of the Library, gave a report on the status of the library and some of the current projects.

The following individuals and organizations were recognized for their contributions to the Friends:

Outstanding Service Award to Ed Burns for his long service to the Friends as a board member and treasurer.

Certificate of Honor to Jonathan Coke for his continued financial support of the Friends even though he is residing in the Netherlands.

Certificates of Appreciation were presented to John Laakso for his service as president and board member; Deena Myrski for her large donation of books to the book sale; Greg Shattuck of Shattuck and Associates, Auctioneers for their donation of time and expertise in conducting the annual auction at the book sale; Jim Cartwright of Immortal Performances for his assistance with the identification and valuation of exceptional records and tapes; Barnes and Noble Book Sellers - Westlake for their continuing donation of books to the book sale; Curio Corner Books and 12th Street Books for their assistance in valuing and selecting books for the auction; Adventures in Crime and Space Books for donating a ton of books to the book sale; Carlos Lowry for his handling of our web page; and Xavier Rameriz for his assistance in collecting branch library book sale money and monitoring special projects.

The meeting was concluded with refreshments provided by Yoli.
