Neighborhood Association

Welcome!

The Northwood neighbood is a diverse community with over 600 homes located just northwest of the Loop 1/Parmer Lane intersection. Established in the 1970's, this community has grown from a suburban neighborhood to an established urban community.

Our Association

The association meets on the first Wednesday of every odd number month at the Milwood Branch Library at 7PM. Attendence and participation in the association is greatly encouraged. Membership information is available here.

National Night Out

Only in Texas! The Neighborhood Night Out (NNO) celebrations will shift from August to October this year as a test to whether there will be greater participation in cooler weather. The 25th anniversary celebration will be on October 7th.

National Night Out is designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
  • Generate support and participation in crime efforts.
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations.
  • Send the message that your neighborhood is a safe place to live.

To sign up your neighborhood block party as an official NNO site or for more information, go to the City of Austin Police Department's website on Neighborhood Night Out. To have a chance for police, fire or emergency medical services personnel to stop by your neighborhood, register by 5 PM August 25th.

Neighborhood BBQ Cancelled

PicnicDue to logistical issues, we are unable to have the street party originally planned for August 23rd. We hope to be able to resolve the issues and bring back this fun event next year.

NEIGHBORHOOD VOTES TO "OPT-IN" TO RESTRICTED PARKING ORDINANCE

On May 15th, the Austin City Council approved the addition of Northwood and other neighbor-hoods in the Restricted Parking Ordinance, which means the City will enforce front and side yard parking regulations in our neighborhood. A total of 22 neighborhoods complied with the necessary notice and voting requirements within their boundaries and will now be added to the enforcement map. Northwood residents will receive a notice from the City and then enforcement will take effect.

The "Front or Side Yard Restricted Parking Ordinance" prohibits persons from parking a motor vehicle in the front or side yard of a residence, except in a driveway or paved parking space depicted on an approved site plan. Motor vehicle includes, but is not limited to: automobiles, motorcycles, trucks, vans, motor homes, panel trucks, buses and SUVs. A front yard is defined as the space between the front property line and the front of a house. A side yard is the part of a yard that extends from the front yard to the rear property line.

Loop1/Parmer Lane Traffic Improvements Project

TxDOT will be improving traffic flow on Loop 1/Parmer Lane. The primary purpose of this project is to improve traffic mobility through the Loop 1 and Parmer Lane area. The project will widened Parmer Lane Bridge over Loop 1 from 6 lanes to 9 lanes, add two right turn lanes from eastbound Parmer to Loop 1 and add another west bound lane to Parmer west of Loop 1. Lane improvement will also be made to Loop 1 frontage roads. The following image image provides you with an architectural rendering of planned changes to the Parmer bridge and Parmer west of the bridge. It does not include details on the southbound frontage road changes.

The project is scheduled to be completed in the late summer to early fall of 2009. For more details regarding the proposed changes, please visit the following document, which is the original description as provided by the project manager.

The project has a web site; please refer to this URL for additional information and updates. You can also go to www.tx.dot.gov and search for Parmer Lane.
